About this chant

Saṅghānussati recollects the qualities of the Buddha’s community of disciples. Its opening word, Supaṭipanno, means having practised well. It accompanies recollection of the Buddha and Dhamma as recollection of the Triple Gem. Thai evening chanting books include it under สังฆานุสสตินยปาฐะ. This recording recites that complete recollection passage once.

The opening praises good, straightforward, right and proper practice. The passage then identifies the four pairs, or eight types, of noble disciples, corresponding to paths and fruits. It honours this noble Sangha as worthy of offerings, hospitality, gifts and respectful salutation, and as an unsurpassed field of merit for the world.

When to use it: Recite it during homage or daily chanting, including after recollections of the Buddha and Dhamma. Reflecting on admirable conduct can become a practical reminder: restrain harsh speech during disagreements and act honestly in ordinary responsibilities.

Meaning: The Blessed One’s community of disciples has practised well, straightforwardly, rightly and properly: the four pairs, the eight types of noble persons. This community is worthy of offerings, hospitality, gifts and respectful salutation, an unsurpassed field of merit for the world.
