About this chant
Dhammānussati is a brief Pali recollection of the qualities of the Buddha’s teaching. Its opening word, Svākkhāto, means well expounded. Alongside recollections of the Buddha and Sangha, it belongs to recollection of the Triple Gem. Thai evening chanting books include it as ธัมมานุสสตินยปาฐะ. This recording recites the complete short recollection once.
The six qualities describe the Dhamma as well expounded by the Blessed One, directly experienceable, timeless, inviting investigation, to be brought into one’s practice, and individually known by the wise. They encourage learning through understanding, observation and experience.
When to use it: Recite it during daily chanting or before sitting meditation, reflecting on the qualities as reminders for practice. For example, begin by observing the body and mind without rushing for results. In daily interactions, consider whether your speech and actions lessen greed, anger and harm.
Meaning: The Blessed One’s teaching is well expounded, directly experienceable here and now, timeless, inviting investigation, to be brought into one’s practice, and individually known by the wise.
